What is your favorite hexgram? and why?

It sheds alot of light on certain hexagrams... when you hear what others see in them and why it's their favorite.

Mine is hexgram 50...the cauldron...I love the ting... in ancient China many of them have psilocybe mushrooms on the top!!! A ceremonial offering vessel.

It just speaks to that idea of keeping yourself centred and ready to receive fate, and assigning the right amount of focus to both. (from the image)

Whats yours?

what is natural

Hello every body,

I was asking my better friend what I should do about my female friend asking me to cosign
for her car.
My better friend is The I Ching;
The reply was
three coins tossed six times, first line = yin non moving [heads (2) tails, (3) & tails (3)]
the whole hex was 28, Great weight with fifth and sixth lines moving.

With the fifth and sixth lines moving in the primary hexagram; when I construct the
secondary hex it transforms to a 50 or Ting [ the Cauldraun ]

the nuclear would be the Creative , number one.

The primary and secondary IMHO indicate that co-signing would be bad, but
the nuclear is an odd one for such a question because it says
****
Persevere, and use creative effort within the Laws of Nature in order to succeed. Good Fortune is indicated if you do!

****

What is natural?
Now should I run across this again in another casting, how am I to render that
meaning into sensible mindfulness, attention and action?

and what are your thoughts on ponying up one's credit rating for a friend to have
a car =sol means of keeping work money coming in?

Thank you all for your input,
You are a great group.
I love reading the I Ching, and would like to take it to a deeper level and read with the yarrow sticks. Does anyone have a step by step method for doing this, or even better a video showing and explaining. I've looked around on the web, and the instuctions aren't clear to me.

Thank you so much.

I Ching calendar

The 64 hexagrams of the I Ching are associated with specific dates in the Chinese calendar. So, in certain readings, the dates connected to the response hexagrams could be the most important information obtained from casting the change.
Four of the hexagrams cover a 3 month period and the rest apply to 5 or 6 days of the lunar year depending on the month, since some have 29 days and others have 30.
Each year at Chinese New Year, I prepare my I Ching calendar so that I know which hexagrams aplly to which days. I've gotten feedback from clients telling me that the dates I gave them when I interpreted their changes for them were right on. In some cases, you can phrase your query so as to ask the "when" question and get an answer about the timing of the next changes in a specific domain. I could post the master chart online if there is interest.

Dear friends of the Yi: peer teaching wanted

Hello dear friends of the Yi

We find ourselves together in this council because we all have one thing in common: love for the YI ans using it for divining

I think we should use this network to share more what we all know and don't know about it. Almost everybody of us works on views, about the book and ourselves.

So I would like to set up a certain routine where we work on 2 things:

- you post one of your own 'prophesies' , give an overview of the situation around and make a round up of your interpretation. You also say where you feel something is missing.

Now the other people throw in their stories, remarks, additional views, etc.

- Parallel with the first item we work on some important themes as such, let's call them the central 'metaphors' . Exemples: the weather, the 4 directions, the river, the body, horse and animals, ...

every body brings in his ideas and experiences as valid info. We mix up, make new synthesis-s and can see further as a result.

I think there is only one condition for this to work: tribesmen and woman are to be sincere. This is: only talking as themselves, as a tribemember. No ego-stuff, no instant enlightment, no mutual 'teaching up' and certainly: no juggling about around it (we're only about it) . Everything more or less to the point. We find ourselves together in this corner of the internet because we share the same interest and we want to know more..

We all know how beatiful, mysteriously beautiful, complex, kind and confusing the Yi is. And walking life alongside with it, you cannot but wonder who this strange friend is.

This is my issue.

Hope getting some news soon!

just now pearing into the depths of the i ching, help?

Hi lovely people! First I must say, that I picked up a copy of the translation of the I Ching first translated by Richard Wilhelm from chinese to german, then translated again by Carl Baynes. I do plan on picking up that other translation, but for now, this is what I'm going to be studying.

It's given little explanation to something in the very beginning, that i have to understand in order to continue on. Such as this:

"Nine in the second place means:
Dragon appearing in the field.
It furthers one to see the great man."

or

"Six in the second place means:
Bites through tender meat,
So that his nose disappears.
No blame."

So, what does it mean by "Nine in the third place" or "Nine in the fourth place", etc...? Where do the 9 and 6 come from? It's given me no good explanation as to what that means, or how to interpret it (so far at least).

Please, someone help me out with this. Give me some pointers, tips, whatever. I am determined to apprehend all of this (as much as possible), so please help me understand, so that I may continue on.

Thank you so much!

Giving someone else a reading??

Hello ya'll.......I've been using the I-Ching a fair amount over the last year or two. From the very first consultation, the answers have been very clear and have turned out to be amazingly accurate (sometimes in very surprising ways).

For me, it's always been a personal thing. I ask questions that are important to me, and I interpret the oracle's response.

My question is, how does this work when giving a reading for someone else? Do they have to interpret their own response? I haven't really tried this yet, so maybe it will all just work out......but if anyone has some advice on this, please illuminate me :-)

Seeking understanding of different hexagrams in a casting

I do the method of casting three coins (yes modern method I am)
and doing this six times providing six lines some static, some moving. I
count this the *primary* hexagram.
I then convert the moving lines to their opposites, yin to yang, yang to yin.
Which this gives me my secondary hexagram.
Returining to the primary hexagram I take the second, third and fourth lines,
using them to make the first, second and third lines of my nuclear hexagram.
I take the third, fourth and fifth lines in the primary to make the fourth, fifth and sixth
lines of my nuclear hexagram.
This builds my nuclear with all six lines.
From book three I can then gather addition information to gain new insight for
the nuclear if this inslight is needed.

I do what to know if there is some sense of whether the secondary and nuclear connote
the inner meaning of the situation or hidden factors or a potentiality. How am I to read these other hexagrams in perspective to the primary?

New to this tribe, do any others here use Carol K. Anthony's "A Guide to the I Ching" for questioning the oracle? I have been consulting with this manual and find her interpretation helpful.

star nations / terrestrial beings... can someone help me with my interpretation

I've been researching the star nations and terrestrial beings. i'm not sure where i stand on this issue. earlier today i consulted the iching for it's position on this matter. i asked to be guided in knowledge as to whether these beings / nations were here to help us or to hurt us. I would very much like to hear other's views & opinions on this matter.

this is the answer that I recieved:

64: 1,4,5. changes to 61. I follow the method of a teacher regarding the interpretation of multiple changing lines. We can talk about this if you like. So with 3 changing lines, I use the middle line, which is line 4. Line 4 reads as follows :

I've provided the interpretations from 2 different scholors . Wilhelm's and Legge

Wilhelm 64:4 Before Completion

Nine in the fourth place means:
Perseverance brings good fortune.
Remorse disappears.
Shock, thus to discipline the Devil's Country.
For three years, great realms are rewarded.

Now it is the time of struggle. The transition must be completed. We must
make ourselves strong in resolution; this brings good fortune. All
misgivings that might arise in such grave times of struggle must be silenced.
It is a question of a fierce battle to break and to discipline the Devil's
Country, the forces of decadence. But the struggle also has its reward. Now is
the time to lay the foundations of power and mastery for the future.

Legge
The fourth NINE, undivided, shows its subject by firm correctness obtaining good fortune, so that all occasion for repentance disappears. Let him stir himself up, as if he were invading the Demon region, where for three years rewards will come to him (and his troops) from the great kingdom.

______________

this hexagram changes to 61 inner truth:

Welhelm's
Wind stirs water by penetrating it. Thus the superior man, when obliged to
judge the mistakes of men, tries to penetrate their minds with understanding,
in order to gain a sympathetic appreciation of the circumstances. In ancient
China, the entire administration of justice was guided by this principle. A
deep understanding that knows how to pardon was considered the highest
form of justice. This system was not without success, for its aim was to make
so strong a moral impression that there was no reason to fear abuse of such
mildness. For it sprang not from weakness but from a superior clarity.

Legge
the name of this hexagram, may be represented in English by 'Inmost Sincerity.' It denotes the highest quality of man, and gives its possessor power so that he prevails with spiritual beings, with other men, and with the lower creatures. It is the p. 201 subject of the 'Doctrine of the Mean' from the 21st chapter onwards, where Remusat rendered it by 'la perfection,' 'la perfection morale,' and Intorcetta and his coadjutors by 'vera solidaque perfectio.' The lineal figure has suggested to the Chinese commentators, from the author of the first Appendix, two ideas in it which deserve to be pointed out. There are two divided lines in the centre and two undivided below them and above them. The divided lines in the centre are held to represent the heart or mind free from all pre-occupation, without any consciousness of self; and the undivided lines, on each side of it, in the centre of the constituent trigrams are held to denote the solidity of the virtue of one so free from selfishness. There is no unreality in it, not a single flaw.

___________________________________________________

ok, i decided to ask for additional insight Again, I asked for more clarity in "their" intentions towards us.

I received 51:2,5. Shock, which changes to 58 Joy. In keeping with my method of interpretation, I am reading changing line 5, which reads as follows:

Wilhelm:
Six in the fifth place means:
Shock goes hither and thither.
Danger.
However, nothing at all is lost.
Yet there are things to be done.

This is a case not of a single shock but of repeated shocks with no breathing
space between. Nonetheless, the shock causes no loss, because one takes care
to stay in the center of movement and in this way to be spared the fate of
being helplessly tossed hither and thither.

Legge
The fifth SIX, divided, shows its subject going and coming amidst the startling movements (of the time), and always in peril; but perhaps he will not incur loss, and find business (which he can accomplish).

which changes to 58 Joy

Wilhelm
The joyous mood is infectious and therefore brings success. But joy must be
based on steadfastness if it is not to degenerate into uncontrolled mirth.
Truth and strength must dwell in the heart, while gentleness reveals itself in
social intercourse. In this way one assumes the right attitude toward God and
man and achieves something. Under certain conditions, intimidation
without gentleness may achieve something momentarily, but not for all
time. When, on the other hand, the hearts of men are won by friendliness,
they are led to take all hardships upon themselves willingly, and if need be
will not shun death itself, so great is the power of joy over men.

Organic Fellowships

The other day I was at a coffee shop pondering life and the i-ching. Suddenly I found myself surrounded by people that were obviously from different organic fellowships than I. In other words people I do not exactly relate to, or people that have life-styles different than my own. I began thinking about hex 8, a specific line in the judgement which reads, "If a Man has recognized the neccessity for union and does not feel strong enough to act as its center, it is his duty to become a member of some other organic fellowship."

A perfect opportunity manifested itself for me to be friendly and engage in conversation. I added a comment to their conversation and laughter. No one in the group responded or even acknowledged that I said anything. I laughed to myself having just been thinking about the above quote. A few minutes passed, I got up and left, a short time later I bumped into a circle of friends that I hadn't seen for awhile. I knew then how fortuitous it can be to follow the flow of the i-ching.

I love it when that happens.

Transformative Experience

Someone in some other tribe asked a question about the
I-Ching as it relates to the shamanic use of psychodelics
this was my reply...

More than an oracle you might wish to explore more deeply
the true meaning of the I-Ching. Transformative experience
is all well and good but unless you are grounded with both
feet within each world, that of your preconditioned mentality
and your true celestial potentiality, one day you may wake
up to discover many years have gone by to far down the
absolutely wrong path.

According to Thomas Cleary in the study of the I-Ching,
"Pure yin refers to the mortal, earth-bound material
dross, which must eventually obey the laws of matter.
Pure yang refers to pure unbound consciousness;
held to partake of the nature of infinity, this is repre-
sented as spiritual immortality. Pure yang may be used
to allude to a peak experience, after which there is a
reintergration of this enlightenment into life in the
world, again balancing yang with yin."

"Nuances of yin and yang qualities, their interactions,
and their effects on human life, are the subject of the
I-Ching. Overall, Taoism uses the idea of balanced
integration of yin and yang in the sense of fulfillment
of the complete or whole human potential, living in the
world and fulfilling worldly tasks, yet maintaining con-
tact with a greater dimension, refered to as
'celestial,' ... using things of the world to practice the
principles of the Tao, using human affairs to cultivate
celestial qualities."

~*~*~*~*~

"Understanding stillness and resting the appropriate
place, stabilizing illumination so that its clarity is not
clouded, using clarity and stillness according to the
time - herein lies the work of hidden cultivation and
secret practice."

The Taoist I-Ching

However, none of this is likely to happen or last for very long
without serious practice.

- - - -- -
Primary: 38/ nine in the second place.

Secondary: 21/

Nuclear: 63/

Primary:
38. K'uei / Opposition

above LI THE CLINGING, FLAME
below TUI THE JOYOUS, LAKE

This hexagram is composed of the trigram Li above, i.e., flame, which burns upward, and Tui below, i.e., the lake, which seeps downward. These two movements are indirect contrast. Furthermore, LI is the second daughter and Tui the youngest daughter, and although they live in the same house they belong to different men; hence their wills are not the same but are divergently directed.

THE JUDGMENT

OPPOSITION. In small matters, good fortune.

When people live in opposition and estrangement they cannot carry out a great undertaking in common; their points of view diverge too widely. In such circumstances one should above all not proceed brusquely, for that would only increase the existing opposition; instead, one should limit oneself to producing gradual effects in small matters. Here success can still be expected, because the situation is such that the opposition does not preclude all agreement. In general, opposition appears as an obstruction, but when it represents polarity within a comprehensive whole, it has also its useful and important functions. The oppositions of heaven and earth, spirit and nature, man and woman, when reconciled, bring about the creation and reproduction of life. In the world of visible things, the principle of opposites makes possible the differentiation by categories through which order is brought into the world.

THE IMAGE.

Above, fire; below. The lake.

The image of OPPOSITION.

Thus amid all fellowship

The superior man retains his individuality.

The two elements, fire and water, never mingle but even when in contact retain their own natures. So the sutured man is never led into baseness or vulgarity through intercourse or community of interests with persons of another sort; regardless of all commingling, he will always preserve his individuality.

THE LINES
Nine in the second place means:

One meets his lord in a narrow street.

No blame.

As a result of misunderstandings, it has become impossible for people who by nature belong together to meet in the correct way. This being so, an accidental meeting under informal circumstances may serve the purpose, provided there is an inner affinity between them.

- - - - - -- - - - -- - - - -- -
SECONDARY:
21. Shih Ho / Biting Through

above LI THE CLINGING, FIRE
below CHêN THE AROUSING, THUNDER

This hexagram represents an open mouth (cf. hexagram

27 with an obstruction (in the fourth place) between the teeth. As a result the lips cannot meet. To bring them together one must bite energetically through the obstacle. Since the hexagram is made up of the trigrams for thunder and for lightning, it indicates how obstacles are forcibly removed in nature.
Energetic biting through overcomes the obstacle that prevents joining of the lips; the storm with its thunder and lightning overcomes the disturbing tension in nature. Recourse to law and penalties overcomes the disturbances of harmonious social life caused by criminals and slanderers. The theme of this hexagram is a criminal lawsuit, in contradistinction to that of Sung, CONFLICT

6, which refers to civil suits.

THE JUDGMENT

BITING THROUGH has success.
It is favorable to let justice be administered.

When an obstacle to union arises, energetic biting through brings success. This is true in all situations. Whenever unity cannot be established, the obstruction is due to a talebearer and traitor who is interfering and blocking the way. To prevent permanent injury, vigorous measures must be taken at once. Deliberate obstruction of this sort does not vanish of its own accord. Judgment and punishment are required to deter or obviate it. However, it is important to proceed in the right way. The hexagram combines Li, clarity, and Chên, excitement. Li is yielding, Chên is hard. Unqualified hardness and excitement would be too violent in meting out punishment; unqualified clarity and gentleness would be too weak. The two together create the just measure. It is of moment that the man who makes the decisions (represented by the fifth line) is gentle by nature, while he commands respect by his conduct in his position.

THE IMAGE

Thunder and lighting:
The image of BITING THROUGH.
Thus the kings of former times made firm the laws
Through clearly defined penalties.

Penalties are the individual applications of the law. The lawsspecify the penalties. Clarity prevails when mild and severepenalties are differentiated, according to the nature of the crimes. This is symbolized by the clarity of lighting. The law is strengthenedby a just application of penalties. This is symbolized by the terrorof thunder. This clarity and severity have the effect of instillingrespect; it is not that the penalties are ends in themselves. The obstructions in the social life of man increase when there is alack of clarity in the penal codes and slackness in executing them. The only to strengthen the law is to make it clear and make penaltiescertain and swift.

- - - - - -- - - - -- - - -
NUCLEAR:
63. Chi Chi / After Completion

above K'AN THE ABYSMAL, WATER
below LI THE CLINGING, FIRE

This hexagram is the evolution of T'ai PEACE

11. The transition from confusion to order is completed, and everything is in its proper place even in particulars. The strong lines are in the strong places, the weak lines in the weak places. This is a very favorable outlook, yet it gives reason for thought. For it is just when perfect equilibrium has been reached that any movement may cause order to revert to disorder. The one strong line that has moved to the top, thus effecting complete order in details, is followed by the other lines. Each moving according to its nature, and thus suddenly there arises again the hexagram P'i, STANDSTILL

12. Hence the present hexagram indicates the conditions of a time of climax, which necessitate the utmost caution.

THE JUDGMENT

AFTER COMPLETION. Success in small matters.
Perseverance furthers.
At the beginning good fortune.
At the end disorder.

The transition from the old to the new time is already accomplished. In principle, everything stands systematized, and it si only in regard to details that success is still to be achieved. In respect to this, however, we must be careful to maintain the right attitude. Everything proceeds as if of its own accord, and this can all too easily tempt us to relax and let thing take their course without troubling over details. Such indifference is the root of all evil. Symptoms of decay are bound to be the result. Here we have the rule indicating the usual course of history. But this rule is not an inescapable law. He who understands it is in position to avoid its effects by dint of unremitting perseverance and caution.

THE IMAGE

Water over fire: the image of the condition
In AFTER COMPLETION.

Thus the superior man

Takes thought of misfortune
And arms himself against it in advance.

When water in a kettle hangs over fire, the two elements stand in relation and thus generate energy (cf. the production of steam). But the resulting tension demands caution. If the water boils over, the fire is extinguished an its energy is lost. If the heat is too great, the water evaporates into the air. These elements here brought in to relation and thus generating energy are by nature hostile to each other. Only the most extreme caution can prevent damage. In life too there are junctures when all forces are in balance and work in harmony, so that everything seems to be in the best of order. In such times only the sage recognizes the moments that bode danger and knows how to banish it by means of timely precautions.

= - = - = - = - = - = - = - = - = - =

Good morning,

Pretty new to this tribe and not so active, but figured this would be a good source for the question I have. I recently threw hexagram 35 and sought out a few different sources to shed light on the meaning. Wouldn't you know that they were pretty drastically different in their interpretation?

SO, does anyone have a source that they prefer? I am familiar with the more well known translators, but I'm just wondering what works for y'all. Additionally, if anyone has anyone knowledge of said hexagram that they'd like to throw out there, I'd be into it. Many thanks!

Ok, this is another dumb question, but I just want to know what other people do...

Surfaces:
I moved into a new place where the floors are uneven. My coins go all over the place, roll, and usually end up hitting walls to stop. Anybody do theirs on a carpet?

Coins:
I used to have 3 2-euro coins I swore by... gave them up when I moved, and for some reason Turkish lira coins just don't fall the same. I like to use the biggest coins possible, seems to work better for me... anybody else have this hang-up?
What coins do you use?

I just set up my business card for my polarity therapy practice. I put the hexagram dispersion (wind over water) to symbolize energetic healing.
Using gentleness and penetration (using awareness to feel into where you can't physically touch) to break up what is dammed inside (represented by water).
has anyone else used a hexagram as a logo for anything? To describe anything?

Hello all,

I recently consulted the oracle about a specific situation (whereas I'm usually seeking general guidance) and was answered with 51, lines 4 & 5 moving. It did not seem to be even remotely relevant, by at least one account. The part I'm most confused about is the mention of natural catatstrophes b/c I asked whether to move forward with a new relation or not. The only thing I can pull out of it so far is that my attitude must change. Any thoughts or am i being way too vague here?

Old yin and old yang

I am not understanding these.

"An old yin turns into a normal yang. And old yang turns into a normail yin"

Does this mean that they are the opposite, or almost the opposite?

Why is this?

Nourishment

27; corners of the mouth.
The image.
At the foot of the mountain, thunder:
The image of PROVIDING NOURISHMENT.
Thus the superior man is careful of his words.
And temperate in eating and drinking.

“God comes forth in the sign of the arousing” : when in the spring the life forces stir again, all things come into being anew. “ He brings to perfection in the sign of Keeping still”: thus in the early spring, when the seeds fall to earth, all things are made ready. This is an image of providing nourishment through movement and tranquility. The superior man takes it as a pattern for the nourishment and cultivation of his character. Words are a movement going form within outward, Eating and drinking are movements going from without inward.
Both kinds of movement can be modified by tranquility. For tranquility keeps the words that come out of the mouth from exceeding proper measure, and keeps the foo that goes into the mouth from exceeding its proper measure. Thus character is cultivated.

THE LINES
Nine at the beginning means:
You let your magic tortoise go,
And look at me with the corners of your mouth drooping.
Misfortune.

The magic tortoise is a creature possessed of such supernatural powers that it lives on air and needs no earthly nourishment. The image means that a man fitted by nature and position to live freely and independently renounces this self-reliance and instead looks with envy and discontent at others who are outwardly in better circumstances. But such base envy only arouses derision and contempt in those others. This has bad results.

Six in the second place means;
Turning to the summit for nourishment ,
Deviating from the path
To seek nourishment from the hill.
Continuing to do this brings misfortune.

Normally a person either provides his own means of nourishment or is supported in a proper way by those whose duty and privilege it is to provide for him. If , owning to weakness of spirit, a man cannot support himself, a feeling of uneasiness comes over him; this is because in shirking the proper way of obtaining a living, he accepts support as a favor from those in higher place. This is unworthy, for he is deviating form his true nature. Kept up indefinitely, this course leads to misfortune.

Six in the third place means:
Turning away from nourishment. Perseverance brings misfortune.
Do not act thus for ten years.
Nothing serves to further.

He who seeks nourishment that does not nourish reels from desire to gratification and in gratification craves desire. Mad pursuit of pleasure for the satisfaction of the senses never brings one to the goal.
One should never (not years is a complete cycle of time) follow this path, for nothing good can come of it.

Six in the fourth place means:
Turning to the summit
For provision of nourishment
Brings good fortune.
Spying about with sharp eyes
Like a tiger with insatiable craving.
No blame.

In contrast to the six in the second place, which refers to a man bent exclusively on his own advantage, this line refers to one occupying a high position and striving to let his light shine forth. To do this he needs helpers, because he cannot attain his lofty aim alone. With the greed of a hungry tiger he is on the lookout for the right people. Since he is not working for himself but for the good of all, there is no wrong in such zeal.

Six in the fifth place means:
Turing away form the path.
To remain persevering brings good fortune.
One should not cross the great water.

A man may be conscious of a deficiency in himself. He should be undertaking the nourishment of the people, but he has not the strength to do it. Thus he must turn form his accustomed path and beg counsel and help from a man who is spiritually his superior but undistinguished outwardly. If he maintains this attitude of mind perseveringly, success and good fortune are his . but he must remain aware of his dependence. He must not put his own person forward nor attempt great labors, such as crossing the great water.

Nine at the top means:
The source of nourishment.
Awareness of danger brings good fortune.
If furthers one to cross the great water.

This describes a sage of the highest order , from whom emanate all influences that provide nourishment for others. Such a position brings with it heavy responsibility. If he remains conscious of this fact, he has good fortune and may confidently undertake even great and difficult labors, such as crossing the great water. These undertakings bring general happiness for him and for all others.

I received this over a year ago when asking if "is it fortuitious for me to invite Jenni out on a date?"
Corners of the mouth seemed to tell me that - a dinner would be very nice, Thank you.-

I thought it was sort of comical that it would do it with this hexagram .
It was after I looked very carefully at the meaning that I realized that _Nourishment_ can be taken as a strong yes, or a strong -no-. It is actually advice to look at the situation and ask if you are -feeding- the right parts of yourself, and if you are feeding the important parts of others.
It is advice to look and see if you Nourish each other in the ways that are most important to each of you.

Interesting, to get a hexagram to tell me, "decide for yourself, to you mutually *suit* each other?" and I could have read it a totally different way.
Family troubles

I've hit a block lately with the I Ching. All the stuff about family just does not make sense to me. Whenever it talks about "the youngest daughter being subortinate" or something, it loses me. Yes, I know it's supposed to be looked at as metaphor. Yin, yang, higher and lower positions and all that. Even the hexagram the family (forget the number, it's wind over fire) seems obscure as a modern westerner trying to understand a situation through the metaphor of an ancient chinese partriachal system.
Does anyone have any ideas for decoding these relationships that the hexagrams have? I'm sure that the relationship remains the same, even if a different metaphor is used, I just haven't figured one out.
Or maybe a version (I use wilhelm) that has a little bit more modern and/or western jargon.

advice from the council please, Hex 44

hello :)

I have very little experiece with the I Ching, but when in doubt a few days ago I asked if an old lover should visit me...I got Hex 44. To me, it doesn't seem positive and has made me rethink this choice...can I get some clarity on your interpretation of 44?

My friend, with much experience with the I Ching (but also with investment in in the outcome) says it's a great sign to wait and all will be very well.

I see this (and also feel this) very differently.

Anyone have any insight?

Thanks so much!

A car drives past you with a license plate that catches your eye and makes sense to you. This happens to me all the time.....we are in a world surrounded by numbers, I am glad I can make alternate sense of it all through the i ching....J

One question I forgot to ask last season. I used to do Tarot and there are ways to tell the question of when or time with cards. I know that the individual hexagrams relate to different quarters NE, North, NW, West, SW, South, South East, East. and each of these have times related to them.
Is there are easy way to get a bead in on when an event or
auspicious time will happen for the seeker/person asking the question?

. .. .. . . .

1. Reconoce que la otra persona es tú. (In lak´ech)

Tantos soldados regresando a casa, heridos y enfermos.

only to find out that the i ching was RIGHT?

it's happened to me a couple times, which has helped affirm my belief in the oracle.

we could do a daily reading for our tribe. perhaps we share a common path... for today:

#22 Pi/Grace
inside the strength of simplicity, outside the beauty of acceptance and gentleness. By gradually letting go of the vain bullying energy of the ego and accepting the quiet guidance of the higher power, one acquires the substance that makes ongoing good fortune a possiblity.

sixth line changing- By discarding the use of false power, one gains a view of the path to true power. In quiet acceptance there are a grace and a strength that overcome all else.
bless you all, may you find the strength to uphold the highest principles and bring love and light to all you meet today.
Does anyone feel as much dislike for the Grace/Pi hexagram, as they do for the Marrying Maiden Hexagram/ 54.
Both of them are very cramped for me and I was wondering if this points to a personality hidden trait that should guide my attention in reading all the I Ching results.
Does not knowing one's personality issues guide in reading the individual hexagrams for greater clarity,.

Hexagram 54

In my research on the I Ching, one of the greatest hurdles can come with Hexagram 54 - which holds the imagry of Thunder upon the Lake. the literal Chinese translation and what most English translation use is the ideogram of 'The Marrying Madien,' but then the commentary goes on to contrdict this imgary and presents us with an idea of a female who is considered too powerful or dominering to take as a wife. This Hexagram has caused my great confusion, due to the contridictiary terms implied. I have researched and found the problem to be with the Enlglish translators (most of whoum are based in the Wilhelm school) using the literal translation, which does not accuraturaly convey itself when brought into English.

I have studied the changing lines (which when placed together draw a complete picture)

in trying to find the correct imagery for Hexagram 54, I have concluded that it is im fact impliing 'The Servant' with the tale of a young retainer entering into service...and forgoing their own hopes and dreams (for the moment) so that they may serve another.

I would like to hear others thoughts on Hexagram 54 and how you hve dealt with unearthing this dilema

Here is a site to a free and quite functinal I Ching program. Tiny little program, it doesn't interpret the lines, you need to use a book with it. But it works and IMO they don't all work. Anyway i like this one a lot and it works very well for me.
Anyone with other software tips?

Hi, I just joined. Four years ago I went to a famous physicist's book signing, where he mentioned he did his I-Ching every morning. I was so impressed that instead of buying his book, I got an I-Ching manual, and have been doing mine about every day since.

Just a question for comments if anybody has any feelings about this:

Today I got #6 - Sung/Conflict. Never had it before.

The book I use reads "When you see conflict coming, drop the issue."

This is not usually my style, and it's not an idea I've come across exactly that directly in readings on Taoism (bending and being flexible as opposed to being stiff and inflexible, yes, but dropping an issue, no).

Anyone ever put this into practice? Good advice all the time, or just in certain situations?

I-Ching, the Tzolkin & DNA ... decode you DNA code !

Greetings of Cosmic Light !

Have uploaded image from the 20 Tablets of the Law of Time by Valum Votan & Bolon Ik of a Primal or Early Heaven Arrangement nature in an Inverse seventh binary weave format !

This graphic is a:
Tzolkin matrix with Radial sequence of 64 I-ching codons.

So would also like to bring to awareness the relationship between the I-Ching and DNA ... and their relationship with the Tzolkin, which then through our kin, we become the living DNA of 260 codes of galactic being.

Here the I-Ching is arranged as:
Cubic lattice of (8x8) = 64 arrayed as Inverse seventh binary weave within Matrix of 5 x 13 = 65 : 64 (+ 1) !

Whats the view of the Council on weaving the codes together ?

My kin is Blue Cosmic Eagle, through the graphic I find that my DNA code is I-Ching #25, which is Heaven over Thunder,
or Time over Energy, within the 49th harmonic (7x7) bardo cycle of the 65 total harmonics. 64 (+1)...

Whats your DNA code ? lets get activated ... tribe.net has great potential for unifying our wisdom & knowledge.

Peace
east is the host, essence; the west is the guest, feeling. 'Lake'
seeking 'thunder' is disturbing essence by emotion, external
energy injuring inner energy.

"Furthermore, 'lake' is associated with metal, governing
punishment and killing; 'thunder' is associated with wood,
governing life and merit. When punishment and killing over-
come life and merit, positive energy dissipates day by day,
and negative energy grows day by day. When this dissipation
and growth reaches the point where there is pure negativity
and no positivity, even if you want to avoid dying you cannot.
Therefore, 'to go on will lead to misfortune; no profit is
gained.'

"So making a young girl marry means using 'lake' to seek 'thun-
der', or using emotion to seek essence - even if they interact, it
is not right. Sages have a way to restore the primal while in
the temporal: If one seeks 'lake' with 'thunder', using essence
to seek feeling, not only will one not be overcome by emotion,
one will also be able to snatch the true yang within feeling and
restore it to essence. When feeling returns to essence, punish-
ment turns into merit; essence loves the rightousness of feeling,
feeling loves the goodness of essence. Essence and feeling u-
nited, there is a return to correctness: Reverting to the original,
going back to the fundamental, the spiritual embryo solidifies,
and even when meeting misfortune it turns to fortune. Then
there will be unfailing benefit where before there was none.
This is an attempt to explain correctness in the midst of incor-
rectness."

"The dividing line between the primordial and the conditioned
is but a hairbreadth; on the one side is the primordial, on the
other side is the conditioned. Conditioned yin and yang always
interact, but their intercourse is not correct; it has no conclu-
sion, and goes wrong. For example, there are ignorant people
in the world who join the energies of heart and genitals, or join
the active and passive energy channels up and down the back
and front of the body, or cause energy to rise up the spin at mid-
night and descend down the front of the body at noon, or gather
energy from sexual intercourse, or heat lead and mercury toge-
ther, or regulate their exhalations and inhalations - all of these
are recognizing the artificial as real, and trying to force com-
munion; imagining that they will thereby live long, instead they
are hastening death. This is quite wrong, a serious degeneration.
If practioners of the Tao want to persist to the end, they should
first know what is wrong; if they know what is wrong, they will
not be deluded by the depraved words of false teachings. Then
if they seek to persist to the end, there is hope they will be closer."

"Persisting to the end means to persist to the end of eternity. To
know what is wrong means to know the degeneracy of what is
incorrect. TheTradition of Connected Sayings of the I-Ching says,
'By finding out truth and fulfilling one's nature, one arrives at the
meaning of life.' The Tao of nature and life is all a matter of deter-
mining right and wrong by finding out truth. Finding out truth
means finding out the principle of communion of yin and yang."

"The intercourse of true yin and yang comes about naturally,
and thus can endure, while the intercourse of false yin and yang
comes about through forced effort, and hence ultimately cannot
last long,"

"'Making a young girl marry' means haste. Practice of the Tao
should not be hasty, for when one rushes one indulges in arbi-
trary guesswork and personalistic interpretations, recklessly
forcing the issue without thoroughly investigationg the true
principles of the Tao, seeking to attain it all at once. This is
like the image of the hexagram, where the youngest daughter
'lake' is paired with the eldest son 'thunder' - the girl is forcib-
ly wed before her time. This is incorrect communion of yin and
yang; eventually there is failure, and one winds up alone in
solitary quietism.

"The Tao of practice of reality is the science of discovery of truth,
consummation of nature, and arrival at the meaning of life. It in-
volves processes and courses of work; it requires gradual practice
in order to reach profound attainment of self-realization. If you
rush, eager for attainment, setting about impetuously, you may
proceed quickly, but will regress rapidly. How then can you cor-
ral the earthly and the celestial energies into the center o
