I have a serious letter to compose. A last wish from an old friend. I have been thinking of this constantly for the past several years. My thoughts were enthusiastic about attempting the letter. But now 41 has brought me down. I'm just following though, I rarely get hex 41. Help!

Mon, January 9, 2006 - 7:10 PMWhat lines? Not a bad hexagram at all. Can have very nice meanings.
Perhaps it simply means tone the letter down a little. -

Mon, January 23, 2006 - 8:34 PMStraight up 41? Simple and direct.
Dial it back.
Decrease the energy level you're putting into something.
Chill, dude. -

Re: Serious 41
Fri, February 10, 2006 - 8:41 AMyour response to wil's comments is exactly what the I Ching is telling you to stop/decrease/sacrifice. Suen is saying, "stop thinking so much, decrease the mental activity that prevents the peace of mind that you will need to complete the offering [the bowl symbolized by the inner trigram Chen], this will increase your receptivity [inner trigram K'un], so that your offering will be acceptable. The decrease of Suen will lead to the "Revival" [inner hexagram - Fu] of your obligation [writing the letter]. It is the constant mental activity ["thinking about this for several years"] that is preventing the inner stillness/clarity of mind and purpose that is stopping you from completing this letter.
or... as wil put very simply... "chill out dude".
i don't think your problem is understanding the advice of the I Ching, I think it's understanding the proper response to it's advice.

Fri, February 10, 2006 - 11:33 AMperhaps some more information regarding your inquiry might be helpful.
if this situation is a letter to a friend as closure then perhaps the i is saying to explain how/why you have decreased your energy input into this relationship?
*shrug*
the quality of the answer is directly correlated to the quality of the question. -

Re: Serious 41
Fri, February 10, 2006 - 12:50 PMThe letter is to David Berkowitz.
Upon casting 41, I casted immediately again, but using a different style when I threw the coins. The second time I got 42.
Should I be looking at the changing lines from 41 to 42 then, even though they are different casts?

Sat, February 11, 2006 - 9:44 AMdecrease the energy you are putting into the situation and a benefit will follow.
That's how i'd readi it. I don't think the lines are as important as the way it all happened in this case. -

Re: Serious 41
Sat, February 11, 2006 - 11:45 PMSome things I think about constantly, but these things are the real issues in my life. Berkowitz is a real issue in my life, but I don't think about this letter frequently. I find it is a circular thing. Like when my father died over a year ago (he and Berkowitz had close communication and my father wrote an unpublished book he'd like to read). I'd rather not allow this energy in my life, but it has been in my life from a very early age (9-10ish), and I have an immense amount of respect for the career in life that my father led. I think he would want me to compose this letter and eventually mail a copy of the book. All I truly seek is complete closure from this darkness in my life. Darkness that I myself as an adult did not intend to put effort into ( I think to shut this energy out from coming back I need to follow through, at some point, with the letter) and at the same time resolving what I have been responsible for, the what and why I have put this energy here and that energy over their.
Perhaps you all are correct, I should be paying attention more to my innerself and not the other person sitting across from me. Nope your right, its time to become selfish and shut the rest of the bull out of my personel needs.

Wed, February 15, 2006 - 7:02 PMsublimate the ego, let go and allow your true message to be communicated with the strength of your greater self. Is one way to read it. -

Re: Serious 41
Fri, February 17, 2006 - 9:25 PMI agree, I'll just tell him the truth as it happened in my life. Then let him choose whether or not to communicate in return. I must admit, I think the communication will be innteresting and compeling. My step dad was responsible for exposing alot of truth in that case. NYC politco's should be ashamed of their cover ups.......
True forms in right wing political dissention and social disorder, but without doubt neccesary at that time. Socially healthy for the well being of all Ny er's.
I hope at some point in the near future, DB gets a congressional hearing and a reduced sentence. If you know about this case then and the shear evidence in clock work and eye witness descriptions, let alone any other forms of factual evidence that now could be re-assesed with DNA. In some other guys (?) opinion, perhaps he has served the necessary time and repented enough for the freedom to walk the streets once again.
You can learn a lot from the monsters under your bed.

Here is my NON-I Ching advice, though I think the authors would agree. You wrote: "time to do the selfish thing". Here is my thought; Look up selfish in the dictionary, MARK IT and look up unselfish in the dictionary, and mark that.
Read the two until *You get it* You will notice something by the 7th read. Selfish means putting yourself first at the cost of all others; unselfish is putting others first at the cost of yourself.
NEITHER is supported by the I Ching. TAO and Ching both say. PUT Unversal balance and cosmic law first. This is achieved in many ways but often is through ignoring our own craving, and ignoring the peer pressures of '(so called) righteous society.
Universal order (via cyclinic action [even inaction]) is how Universe rules itself. If you put wisdom first, selfishness and unselfishness will be two concepts that should shed from your base consciousness and Cosmic and natural order will replace them.

Re: Serious 41
Sat, April 1, 2006 - 7:01 PMPerhaps my inability to have full command of the English language is one of the many reasons I have not written the letter yet.
To rephrase the idea: Maybe the time has come for me to put myself first, and walk only on the backs of those that are willing.
