#51

Hello all,

I recently consulted the oracle about a specific situation (whereas I'm usually seeking general guidance) and was answered with 51, lines 4 & 5 moving. It did not seem to be even remotely relevant, by at least one account. The part I'm most confused about is the mention of natural catatstrophes b/c I asked whether to move forward with a new relation or not. The only thing I can pull out of it so far is that my attitude must change. Any thoughts or am i being way too vague here?

    Hello all, and Eles.

I would like to put in my two , three pennies worth. <winks>. From having debated I Ching with my I Chinging buddy , we have decided that I Ching is not something to discuss; other than that it is a very subjective thing & that it is always about growth. One of the things that would be talked about is the secret is to ask *the right question* and
to ask it the *right way*. I have found a third different way to ask the questions.

    ***
Specificity, such as "Is X business the right one for me?" or "Will a trip to Paris be fortuitous?", is generally rewarded with an answer.
    **
You will notice that the question is not phrased in a * should I or shouldn't I* because to offer both options makes the readings more confusing. The *answer* is always hidden in the care that you put into the elegance of the *question*.
The better the question is phrased, the more enlightening that the toss shall shed light on the *issue* in focus.
Try asking, "Will starting a relation with this woman be fortuitious (for me)( for us) ((for the long term relationship) and so forth." each time you ask the question differently you will get more layers. i personal recommend only asking oracle a certain issue question once a month or once in ten days.
If you ask. "How will things go if I do this?" then
you ask" how will things go if I don't do this, but that other course of action?" ; these are actually not a repeat question and totally allowed by prudence. All is good, "No blame".

My personal take, though is that hooking up with this '(pyscho)\ chick is definitely not recommended.
Oracle is always offering choice, but also wisdom. It is best - a word to the wise- and
follow your own better -judgment- from there.

Thanks for your words. I meant to reply earlier, but it seems that a reply was not meant to manifest until this point. I think the most important thing to recognize when consulting the oracle is one's own personal relationship to it (for better or worse) and the rituals one creates around the process in order to draw meaning.

In case you couldn't tell, this particular reading didn't resonate with me, and I didn't know why until this past weekend. I had asked a specific question, when I usually ask for general guidance; the oracle tried to give me the general guidance I usually seek, not an answer to my question. How do I know? For one, my inability to connect the hexagram's meaning with my question. Also, this past Saturday (a week after the toss) I was in a truck coming down a mountain pass that got involved in a pretty nasty pileup. Our driver knew what he was doing, but due to circumstances (suddenly icy roads, other drivers' inexperience with the elements) a couple of cars got totalled. Luckily, nobody was hurt and that was *seriously* a miracle because it could have gotten NASTY. Lesson learned: the oracle provides guidance and informs you of what you need to know, not what you want to know. Now I really do know. The other lesson I learned was how much the people I was in the car with mean to me in my life; I cannot express how thankful I am that they are all ok.

Please keep in mind that these are only words, and that just because this is how I'm able to easily convey my relationship with the I Ching through such a flat medium as an internet message board, it in no way sums up my understanding of the oracle. I am not an expert, but the depth of my understanding is probably not going to come across in a simple paragraph or two. That being said, I am truly thankful that there is a place where people are able to ask questions and discuss their experiences in order to broaden their perspectives and understanding of the Ching. Hopefully in doing so, we all come closer to knowing the sage and finding our own tao.

When i get #51 with 4 and 5 changing, i think of it in terms of energy. The 4th place indicates stuck energy, perhaps i've eaten too much, or just not in clear condition for one reason or another to handle some energy, so it's stuck. The 5th line means that there is imnportant stuff i need to attend to, even though the situation is difficult.

These lines could mean something entirely different to another long time I Ching user.

Sometimes this has been literal, about getting my truck stuck in the mud. The Ching loves a good joke!!!

I think getting the most out of the I Ching is all about developing a personal language with it ovefr time.

Fairly often it doesn't answer my questions, but answers other questions that are behind the questions i'm asking. It answers the questions i SHOULD be asking.

Your words of wisdom speak to what this modern, western mind has just grasped. Thank you for your input. Namaste...

Eles,! ! ! Do you write down your question before you -roll- the pennies/coins? This may be why you are getting to much variance in your results response. That is to say, non-sequitor answers to questions you didn't ask.

No, I don't because my question is almost always "what do I need to know right now to move forward in this life?" Again, with this instance I got specific, but I do feel the answer was addressing my usual question rather than the specific one I had asked. I think I'll go back to my ritual, because it's what works for me...

Your ritual makes perfect sense, however, if I were going to ask a specific question that was different than my usual question; "i" would recommend always writing the question down... whenever the question varies from my routine.
Do with it what you want, make of it what you will. All in choice, go in peace.
