Re: coin method
Fri, February 8, 2008 - 2:21 AMI do. Incredible synchronicity. 1st, I write down my situation. What's going on. No yes or no questions. The I Ching is not here to tell you what to do. Rather, it's like a wise trusted uncle, here to give advice.
I always pick 3 pennies at random. No lucky Chines coins. Pennies have a nice humility. After I've written my question, I begin. I close my eyes, and as I shake the coins, I think about some aspect of my query. Then I throw the coins, and build my hexagram from the bottom up.
In the 1st few throws, I meditate on the past events that led me to my question. On the middle throws, I meditate on the situation at this moment in time, and on the final throws, I meditate on what outcome I might want. With my last throw, I always conclude with, "Please give me guidance." and then I throw for the 6th time.
A wonderful book for both beginners and experienced is "The I Ching Workbook," by R.L. Wing.
www.amazon.com/I-Ching-Wo.../038512838X
It's based on an excellent traditional translation, but brought up to date. Amazingly insightful. My copy is so worn, it's held together by rubber bands. But, it keeps right on working.
Look at my profile to see the reality that the I Ching has led me to believe in. It's a bit far out, but it works for me.
I wish you Good Journeys. W.

I like the coins, from what my mentor "in I Ching" showed me you receive three hexagrams
for tossing the three coins six times.
From the six throws six lines are produced, from the first hexagram [primary hexagram]
the secondary and nuclear are developed.
I have done two this month of questions about a loan to friend and it was
very accurate I feel : except that I wrote down that I had a secondary and nuclear
hexagram of 12 [ po, standstill] when it should have been 44 [ coming to meet ]
be careful when using the matrix that you don't miss place which hexagram was your
answer.
I have had other problems like adding the coins wrong and not discovering it until later after all the reading.
This is why it is useful, at least for me, to keep track of the work with paper work.

I always use the coins, but dice have proven fun, as well as beads. I would not recommend the computer as it encourages an attitude of frivilousness toward the
castings. It is good to be serious and focused when you work a question. also delve into
the depth of the answer because with the right book you can get enormous insight
into your issue at hand.
The most important thing to remember is phrasing the question is vital critical.
something llike "what is the issue regarding " my asking Suz out for a date in the next ten
days.
if you place a question in fixed terms [no time but a black and white should I or shouldn't I]
also do a second casting on whether it is time dependant, for according to the sage all
conditions are in flux and change as time passes.
:)
Thanks.
