In regard to line 3 in hexagram 48 & 50, the lines read similarly. Can anyone elucidate the differences? I have been getting both for a while now and would like more clarity. Thanks Jo

Re: New to the tribe and have a question
Sun, March 18, 2007 - 2:04 PMWhere hexagram 48 is less specific, 50 goes into more detail in theR. Wilhelm
I Ching.
50 states:
The fall of rain symbolizes here, as in other instances, release of tension.
Nows rain is a sign of potentiality and when the air is sharp (positive ions) there is great tension. When the clouds finally burst forth with rain th tension is eased and the plenty of rain/ good is given. With rain the plenty is still not complete for the plants have not yet grown in response to the water from the rain.
So when the solution comes and the 'able man' is given the right place the tensionis not quite releaved.
In 48 & in 50 it is shown a man who is not utilized. In 48, it specifically says an able man; where in 50 it points out the man is in a improper place and it also points a need for spiritual refinement to avail himself of the proper time and place to be of use.
When confused, if you have the R. Wilhelm book, go to book(section)) three and read comments there as well.

Re: New to the tribe and have a question
Sun, March 18, 2007 - 6:48 PMThanks . I can see where both are true for me right now , I am often impatient for things to shift, it has been a long time of knowing my worth and gifts yet not having the security of the world valuing them enough to support me emotionally or financially.. Re: New to the tribe and have a question
Mon, March 19, 2007 - 11:23 AMI think (here I get to use one of my favorite words)) it would now "behoove" you to explore what spiriitual quality is needed.
What is meant by that by the I ching?
Try doing the nuclear and see what other advice was in thelast casting you did.
Want more> write me private for my PH#. I'll explain what to do to get information form the nuclear and second hexagrams.

Re: New to the tribe and have a question
Sun, April 8, 2007 - 2:33 PMIn thinking about the I Ching and spiritual quality, btw... spiritual usually seems to mean
putting aside the egotism and cupidity [greed] in favor of clearing misunderstanidngs
and bringing about true unity in the fellowship of men. There is the dispersion of
provincial thinking and a placing of the power that be in mind, to allow one's self to
decrease in favor of the strength of the all or greater community of folks. A willingness
to honor the divine though there is less with which to do it, seeking to honor not
with pretense at wealth, but with what is in one's agency and paying tribute with
sincerity. see. dispersion and decrease respectively 59 and 41 ||::|| & ||:::|
There were the two hex that caught my attention as seeming to have strong
similairities even though in reading dispersion the commentary compares it
to gathering together. Interesting that I see the connection of 59 & 41,
Perhaps this show that in casting 41: decrease, I should also read dispersion for
greater insight also.

Re: New to the tribe and have a question
Mon, April 9, 2007 - 2:17 PMInteresting articulations. All of which feel relevant for me.I'm doodling about with IC, Astrology, Vedic Astrology, INFJ< enneagram..clearly I am in the midst of a transition. ..
and learning just what spiritual demands are being made & then actually changing oneself... I used to be much more able to change once I saw clearly what was needed. Lately I seem more resistant. Perhaps i am just resistant and didn't see it before or maybe it's just deeper programming that needs to shift or maybe something else altogether! Thanks for your information and kindness. Jo

Re: New to the tribe and have a question
Mon, April 30, 2007 - 6:14 AMHi Joayn, I too use Wilhelm, both text and commentaries. But I also use "The I Ching Workbook" by R. L. Wing, The English is easier for me, and between the two books, I usually find understanding.
Wing-48 line3: You may be overlooking an opportunity that has come your way or you, and your talents, may be overlooked by others. This is very unfortunate. If somehow this could be recognized, you and everyone around you would benefit.
Wing-50 line3: Your unique talents are not being used because they are not recognized. This may be due to erroneous thinking on your part. Maintain a positive attitude about yourself, and things will change for the better.

Re: New to the tribe and have a question
Sat, November 24, 2007 - 10:05 AMDear Dantia
I ckecked my notes and I must say I cannot really answer to your question.
I see the point that their linked somewhere but the lining up of them together gives me a very terse feeling (the drieness of the well (in one way or another) versus the detailled metal of the cauldron).
And the same time the overall dynamic of the themes is quite different.
If you feel talking about it, could you tell us more about it?
Did you get them as an answer seperately of together? Did you get them as an answer to the same question?
By the way: do you already have a understanding of the message now?
Greetings
Franklin
